What is Elgeis?
Elgeis (pronounced L-G-S) is a online community centered around the use of Mojang's Minecraft as a substrate for the creation of (and experimentation with) legal systems, domestic and international policy, and infrastructure. Our players are able to see firsthand the downstream effects of policies which they enact, allowing them to understand the functions of governance in a remarkably concrete way. Trade protectionism, social programs, religious doctrines, zoning districts, and military strategy are all high-minded concepts which members grapple with day-in and day-out as the political environment evolves with as little outside guidance or interference as possible.

How does it work?
Our server attempts to be a marriage between the political roleplay aspects of academic exercises like Model UN, Mock Senate, or Debate Club with the wide range of possibilities and capability for real action found in Minecraft. Much as in the real world, all our players are simply trying to make better lives for themselves, but things get more complicated when different organizations, cultures, ideologies and values clash in trying to meet this end.Β
In order to encourage a realistic experience, we have taken several drastic steps not seen on a typical Minecraft server, to name a few:Β
Teleportation, for instance, is totally foregone and forbidden; this requires our players to invest in infrastructure to ease travel. This also requires military actions to consider terrain and logistics, not to mention making necessary supplies of horses, boats, elytra or minecarts for faster travel.
There is also no "spawning" of items in a central shop; all resources have to be actually extracted or traded for, so strategic locations and resources like unique biomes or Villagers are actually valuable.
